Blogging and Journalistic Differences
Interesting dissection by Thomas Crampton at joi ito of the differences between blogs and journalism. It's a question often raised by agencies considering blog advertising. I have summarised Mr Crampton's analysis as follows:
Involvement: Sparking conversation and feedback is part of blogging.
Timing: Timing is not as critical in blogging.
Tone: Blogs are more informal and personal.
Opinions: Blog postings work best with strong opinions in them.
Length: Postings are never longer than a few paragraphs.
Reporting: Primary reporting not necessary for a Blog posting.
Simple and quick: Blogging is pretty quick and easy.
Mr Crampton is encouraging additions and critiques to his list at joi ito .
